Beat Jeff by a dime :)

See, this is why I don't bother with contests unless they're free. We all doubled our money, which ought to be a fantastic day, but in "contest world", that doesn't even get us into the finals, and we end up as losers.

Steve, your comment about Bris contests rings true... at least in my case. Going back almost a decade now - very solid win pct and solid positive roi in Bris Contest races.

Note to self: I really should take a closer look at subtle differences between Bris contest races and regular races.

But back to my point.

Winning 3 of 8 races and doubling a contest bankroll; that's a pretty good day. Consistently perform like that during live play and the world is pretty much yours.

Several years ago I took the time to call Bris and got John Broadbent on the phone. If I remember right that was in April 1999 and I think he said there were almost 7,500 entries in that contest. With so many entries it's really tough to crack the top 10.

Congrats Tom on your placing. I think you're qualified for the finals right?

Nice going Tom, Think that makes 3 in the finals?

Screwed the pooch at Ky. Downs. Had 1 cap place horse. ($22)

Didn't play the 70:1 maiden at LaD. Should have and it messed up the head bad.

I have always wondered WHY certain races were selected. Would love to see the criteria BRIS has set up for selecting the races.

I think in the BRIS format, and with so many people playing, you almost have to take a few swings with longer shots.

Once the results are official, the placing qualifies for the BRIS finals in November. So that means about an 80-1 shot to make the final in Vegas. Hope the WOS+ and WOR+ are clicking that day :)

I'm going to throw out a guess and say that the races they select tend to have large fields of decent quality horses. This would add both value and reliability.

Large contentious fields is something I've been able to encapsulate to a degree with a factor like Race Volatility. But I've never gone after anything R&D-wise along the lines of "quality of field" or identifying a race full of "decent quality horses" vs a race that isn't.

There's Race Strength. But that's at the horse level.

Maybe I should do some R&D along the lines of developing a number similar to Race Strength at the race level.

The way I see it, in these tourney's, it all boils do to whether it's YOUR DAY or not.

You have to be prepared for when luck strikes. JCapper is the damndest preparation tool I've ever seen.
